CEBU, which is known for its rich cultural and historical heritage, is also popular for its natural and tranquil atmosphere, surrounded by 167 fascinating islands, where you will find white-sand beaches, crystal-clear water, lofty mountains and mysterious caves.
For Japanese carmaker Isuzu, however, Cebu is even more significant, as it is where products have a dominating market presence.
At a recent event, dubbed as the Isuzu “World of Wheels,” Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC) showcased its complete vehicle lineup composed of the Crosswind, D-Max, I-van and the all-new MU-X.
The two-day event provided an overview of how Isuzu is contributing to the lifestyle, trade and commerce of Cebuanos. According to IPC President Nobuo Izumina, “Cebu has always been, and remains to be, one of Isuzu Philippines Corp.’s strongest markets. This is hardly surprising, as the place’s mix of highly urbanized areas, and breathtaking agricultural and seaside landscape makes it the perfect setting for Isuzu vehicles, which are well-equipped to serve both leisure and utility purposes.”
“I am truly honored that we at IPC continue to provide Cebuanos with the best reliable, durable and fuel-efficient vehicles. I am also happy to announce that the highlight of this event is the arrival of the All-New mu-X,” Izumina added.
The All-New mu-X is currently IPC’s flagship sports-utility vehicle model that is equipped with advanced technological and design features.
Exterior features of the mu-X are the projector-type headlights, center roof antenna, color-keyed front and rear bumpers, power-assisted folding side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators, and roof rails that can support up to 60 kilograms. Isuzu has fitted fog lamps, chrome on the radiator grille, hood garnish, door handles, and a tailgate add more sophistication to the higher versions.
The All-New mu-X is available in three variants: the LS-A that comes in either four-wheel-drive or two-wheel-drive configuration, both fitted with a five-speed automatic transmission; the LS-M, which has a two-wheel-drive system and a five-speed manual transmission; and last, the LS variant, which is equipped with a two-wheel-drive system and a five-speed manual transmission.
The All-New mu-X is designed with ideal dimensions, flaunting an exterior package that’s easy to maneuver and park, while having an interior that comfortably seats seven passengers.
The vehicle is powered by Isuzu’s new 4JK1-TC 2.5-liter diesel engine that has common-rail direct injection and an intercooled variable geometry system turbocharger, allowing it to produce 136 ps at 3,400 rpm and 320 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 2,800 rpm. Aside from its very popular passenger models, IPC also displayed its commercial vehicles, like the i-Van UV express shuttle or school bus; D-Max cab and chassis with passenger van body; NHR Flexiqube, NKR light-duty truck; and even an Isuzu marine engine. All the Isuzu vehicles were available for test-drives during the event. At the event, IPC also turned over 300 units of assorted Isuzu truck models to Orix Leasing and Finance Corp. The trucks are intended for the use of Dranix Distributors Inc., one of the biggest trucking companies in Cebu City.
