THE Internet of Things (IoT), along with mobile devices and cloud-computing architecture and devices, are the big trends to watch in 2015, according to experts who spoke recently in a Dell event at the Bonifacio Global City.
Christopher Papa, Dell Philippines Inc. country manager, said prospects for the company founded by Michael Dell looks promising in 2015 in the enterprise segment as they see more organizations continuing to beef up their cloud-based information communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and the IoT.
“We expect to achieve continuous growth in 2015 in the enterprise segment, which we grew at 70 percent in 2014,” Papa said during the launch of the company’s newest monitors for cloud-based and gaming applications.
Christopher Syling, Intel Philippines Inc. brand manager, said the IoT will continue to play a prominent role in the ICT horizon in 2015, especially in health, education and governance.
“The IoT will change the way we do things,” Syling said.
He added that 2015 would be exciting for Intel Philippines “because there will be a greater demand for mobile devices, especially smartphones and personal computers.”
“The business-process outsourcing [BPO] industry will be the main growth driver for PCs, as more foreign companies are expected to enter the Philippines,” he said.
Since 2004 the BPO industry has grown tenfold in revenues and employment with the industry projecting an average yearly growth rate of 20 percent.
The BPO industry is expected to generate $25 billion in total revenues in 2016, Syling said.
The IoT refers to the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. Further, IoT led the convergence of wireless technologies, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and the Internet.
Mae Rivera-Moreno, Windows lead for Microsoft Philippines, said security would be given a premium in 2015, as many people will aim to protect data and information in their mobile devices. She added the Redmond, Washington-based software giant will also launch the Windows 10 operating system for business in 2015.
“We are excited on Windows 10 because it will offer numerous innovations,” she said.
Jesmond Ching, brand manager of Dell South Asia, said the company’s new monitors signify its leadership in product innovation by making the latest monitor technologies available to everyone, regardless of their usage or budget.
The launch was led by the UP2715K, the world’s first 5K Monitor; the U3415W, the industry’s first type of 34-inch curved screen monitor; the ultra-HD 4K monitor P2715Q and the new Ultrasharp monitor U2515H.
The UP2715K boasts of a 12-digit hardware 3D Look Up Tables (LUT) and complements the company’s Premier Color technology. It is capable of displaying 1.07 billion colors and covers 99 percent AdobeRGB and 100 percent sRGB colors.
It uses a 27-inch 16:9 ultra high-definition 5K screen panel and has a screen resolution capacity of 5120×2880 , seven times higher than the standard ordinary full-HD monitors.
Ching said the 34-inch curved monitor is ideal for gamers and has an ultra-wide 21:9 screen containing cinematic clarity and sharpness of WQHD 3440 X1440 Resolution. He added the curved design gives gamers a competitive edge because of the wide view requiring less eye movement when compared to a flat panel display. “This gives gamers greater peripheral vision when the competition heats up,” Ching said.
Meanwhile, Ching said the Ultra HD2715Q is geared for the mainstream market. He added the 27-inch 4K monitor provides pixel-perfect clarity four times the resolution of HD.
He added the 4K monitor has also wide digital connectivity that enables the user to connect with other accessories simultaneously as well as see content from mobile devices on the monitor screen without compromising picture quality.
