INTEL Corp. said putting in its chips in Cherry Mobile units can help in further technology connectivity in the country. The company believes targeting the young Filipino users can further complement such effort.
Intel Philippines Country Manager Calum Chisholm said the huge number of Filipino millennials present a huge opportunity for growth “as they form a tech-savvy generation.” Chisholm said the country’s millennial population of 36 million are digitally connected. The 34 million non-millennials also need to be connected to the digital world, he added. “The Intel form factor will make it possible to enable a bigger number of Filipinos to be connected.”
“Today’s youth are more empowered and capable than ever. Their technological savvy presents them with the opportunities to accomplish more, given the right avenues to express their passion. This is what we aim to leverage our partnership with Cherry Mobile. [Their] new series of mobile devices can help us provide amazing experiences to the youth, empowering them through affordable but competitive devices to help them take control of their productivity,” Chisholm said.
He led the unveiling of Cherry Mobile’s 8-inch tablet that has an Intel Atom 1.8 gigahertz quad-core processor. Another is a 7-inch widescreen tablet also with an Intel Atom processor. Another product with an Intel Atom chip is a smartphone aimed at young professionals.
Katrina Ocampo, head of marketing at Cosmic Technologies Inc., said deal with Intel enabled the company to reach out to the mass market that does not have access to cyberspace.
Chisholm said a developing country like the Philippines needs to provide its people with the digital tools to be more empowered in a society where knowledge is the key generator of wealth. By providing affordable devices, he said the mass population of the country can have an opportunity to develop their skills in the knowledge economy.
