YOU would think that given the number of Hollywood celebrities that will be in town at about the same time (Glee’s Mark Salling, for one; the cast of Fast and Furious 6, for another, including no less than Vin Diesel who was spotted working the crowd in Bonifacio Global City), retail giant SM would be happy to arrange for a ride on the coattails of one of them for the opening of what is touted to be its game-changing mall, SM Aura Premier, also in Bonifacio Global City.
Then again, SM is not like those retail giants that fly in some second- or third-tier Hollywood celebrity and comport themselves with no small amount of smug self-satisfaction. Instead, SM has flown in nothing less than one of the world’s biggest fashion icons. Yup, the buzz is true: Manolo-loving Carrie Bradshaw herself, the fabulous Sarah Jessica Parker, is in town to open SM Aura on May 16. Yes, that would be today.
You can bet that anyone and everyone who’s in fashion and society and entertainment would want to have, however fleeting, face time with Mrs. John James Preston.
Besides being a much-followed style icon, Sarah Jessica Parker—or simply SJP, as she’s increasingly referred to nowadays in the media old and new—is, of course, also a multiawarded actress who has won four Golden Globes, three SAGs (that would be the Screen Actors Guild Award) and two Emmys—all for her compulsively watchable turn as Carrie in the hit HBO series Sex and the City, which not only spawned two successful movies but also continues to be a lingering and most welcome presence on syndicated TV.
Is another Sex and the City movie in the cards? We haven’t got the slightest clue (a peek at SJP’s entry in IMDB.com reveals nothing of the sort in pre-production) but what is certain is that Ms. Parker is headed back to Broadway (off-Broadway, actually) in the fall for the family dramedy The Commons of Pensacola, starring opposite Blythe Danner.
More recently, she did a successful guest appearance in the hit series Glee in a recurring role as a Vogue editor who mentors Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer).
Welcome to Manila, Ms. Parker.
