WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama said on Monday that Iran’s election of a relatively moderate leader shows that the country’s people want to change course. But he stressed that Tehran still needs to show the international community that it’s not pursuing a nuclear weapon.

PRESIDENT Barack Obama said Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke has stayed in his post “longer than he wanted,” one of the clearest signals the central bank chief will leave when his current term expires next year.
