THE National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), the country’s sole power lines concessionaire, said on Tuesday it has deployed its personnel to work on its transmission facilities that have been affected by the onslaught of Typhoon Pedring.
As of noon on Tuesday, the NGCP said power delivery in a total of 17 transmission facilities in north and south Luzon have been interrupted due to line trippings brought about by the typhoon.
It said the 69-kilovolt Bacnotan-Luelco-Agoo-Tibong; 23-kV Itogon-Tuba line; 69-kV Ambuklao-Beckel line; 230-kV Binga-San Manuel line 2 tripped on Tuesday morning and have already been scheduled for line patrol.
These lines have affected the delivery of power in Agoo, Caba, Bauang, Aringay, Pugo, Sto. Tomas, Rosario, San Fabian, Sison and Pangasinan.
The NGCP said its transmission personnel are also on standby to inspect the 230-kV Bayombong-Santiago line 1 and line 2 when the strength of the typhoon subsides.
It added that the 69-kV Bayombong-Lagawe line, 69-kV Limay-Exemplar line, 69-kV Hermosa-Balanga line, 69-kV Mexico-Pimu line, 69-kV Mexico-Balintawak l ine, 500-kV San Jose-Tayabas line 1, 230-kV Balintawak-Mexico line, and 115-kV San Jose-Angat line 3 also tripped early Tuesday morning.
In South Luzon, affected lines include the 69-kV Batangas-Ibaan-Rosario line, 69-kV Batangas-Lipa-Rosario line have been scheduled for line patrol.
The Pawa-Tabaco-Malinao line also tripped and only the Ligao-Pawa section has been energized.
For the Pawa-Tabaco-Malinao section, NGCP said line patrol were put on hold due to stormy weather.
Meanwhile, the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said as of 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, only 31 percent, or 216 out of the 698 circuits, remain without power—from a high of 44 percent, or 313 of the total number of circuits, at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Alfredo Panlilio, Meralco senior vice president and customer retail services and corporate communications head, assured that Meralco crews continue to work double time as they repair damaged Meralco facilities.
“Meralco is on full alert and has mobilized its service crews, business centers, business segments and the call center to respond to emergency situations,” Panlilio said.
