Ban, but no fine, for NLEX man

PHILIPPINE Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner Chito Salud will never tolerate any form of violence on the basketball court.

Make no mistake about it.

On Tuesday the league commissioner proved he means business, banning NLEX liaison officer Arnel Angeles from the Developmental League for attacking Big Chill’s Raymond Maconocido during the two teams’ game on Thursday last week.

Salud, who summoned Angeles at his office, said the team official committed grave misconduct and serious unsportsmanlike behavior. Angeles saw what he did during a review of the game tape.

“His behavior has no place in our league, let alone in sports. It was absolutely unacceptable as he was not part of the apparent scuffle at all,” Salud said.

The incident happened with 6:13 to play in third quarter and Big Chill ahead, 65-55.

As players from both teams wrestled for the loose ball, the team official walked inside the court and kicked the Big Chill guard in the head then returned to the bench as if nothing happened.

Big Chill eventually won the game, 85-83.
