FLOWER prices in Dangwa, Manila, continue to increase as All Saints’ Day approaches.

One of the buyers, Cherry San Juan, came to the Dangwa flower market on Saturday to buy flowers for her late father. She was shocked at the high prices of flowers at the market.

“Mahirap kasi maraming tao, pero kailangan din for respect,” San Juan said.

Carnations, for instance, already sold for P200 per bundle from the usual P180. Prices may even go up to P250 in the next few days.

Baby’s breath, which only sells at P10 per bundle, is now P40; the P90 roses now sell at P350 and may go up to P400 a bundle.

Flower vendors shared tips on how to save money at Dangwa.

For example, not many people know that they will get the most value for their money by buying Malaysian mums from Bukidnon. These cost P100 per bundle and will last two weeks.

For those who want to buy orchids but could not afford P500 per bundle, there’s a six-stem orchid set that only cost P200.

Others choose to buy rose petals at P50 per bag as an alternative to flower arrangements.

They can also bring their own flowers to Dangwa and only pay P100 for the arrangement.

According to the sellers, it’s best to shop early to avoid the last-minute rush and save money.
