Telecom executive Manny V. Pangilinan returned from a weeklong US trip over the weekend but did not bring along solid news that he has taken significant strides in his reported bid to buy the Sacramento Kings franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
A close aide, however, confirmed a good part of Pangilinan’s US trip dealt on the Kings franchise—although everything, the aide said, was still in the “talking stage.”
The same aide confirmed, though, that Pangilinan was now having second thoughts about the Kings. This, after the Atlanta Hawks were said to be on sale, too.
The Hawks made Pangilinan reconsider the Kings, the aide explained, because “a lot of work has to be done to improve” Sacramento’s Arco Stadium.
“So it is turning out that buying the Kings is heftier because there is a need to upgrade the Arco Stadium,” the aide said.
As for Atlanta, its Philips Arena is in top condition.
The aide emphasized that Pangilinan is interested in buying an NBA team as a “personal investment.”
