THE United Nations has reiterated its warning to countries with rapid population growth such as the Philippines to adopt reproductive-health policies to prevent their populations from suffering a harsher impact of disasters linked to climate change.

The UN Population Fund launched on Wednesday the “State of the World Population” report highlighting women, mostly in poor and developing countries, that it said are the “most vulnerable to suffer from the impact of climate change because they make up the larger share of agricultural work force and do not have much access to income-earning opportunities than men.”

THE House of Representatives has approved a bill allowing partisan or political activity in the period from the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) up to the official start of the campaign period, a time span that is now a no-campaign stage under the election law.

Approved on Tuesday night on third reading was House Bill 6926, amending the Omnibus Election Code, authored by PDP-Laban Rep. Teodoro Locsin Jr. of Makati.

THE Court of Appeals (CA) has decided to allow the deportation of sugar magnate Jimmy Go, also known as Jaime T. Gaisano, following the findings of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Office of the President (OP) that he is a Chinese citizen.

Associate Justice Jane Aurora Lantion of the CA’s Twelfth Division, in the ruling she wrote, dismissed the petition for review by Go to reverse the order of the OP affirming the April 17, 2002, resolution of the BI finding Go a Chinese citizen and ordering his deportation to China.
