World Boxing Organization champions Brian Viloria (flyweight), Donnie Nietes (minimum weight) and Ana Julaton (super bantamweight) are tops on the honor roll who will be feted in the affair where Vice President Jejomar Binay will serve as guest of honor and speaker.
Joining them are world wushu champions Jessie Aligaga (sanda of sanshou) and Dember Arcita, and billiards stars Efren “Bata” Reyes and Rubilen Amit.
Sharing the spotlight in the event presented by Smart, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Basketball Association, Milo, SM Prime Holdings, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., ICTSI and Coca-Cola are the Dragon Warriors, who bagged five gold medals, all in record fashion, in the 10th International Dragon Boat Federation World Championship in Tampa Bay, Florida.
The other major awardees, according PSA President Rey Bancod of Tempo, are Philippine Basketball Association Most Valuable Player (MVP) Jimmy Alapag (pro basketball), National Collegiate Athletic Association MVP Calvin Abueva of San Sebastian, University Athletic Association of the Philippines MVP Bobby Ray Parks of National University, Jhonnel Ababa (professional golf), and Dottie Ardina and Rupert Zaragosa (amateur golf).
Olympic qualifier Mark Anthony Barriga (amateur boxing), Horse of the Year Magna Carta (horseracing), Jockey of the Year Jesse Guce (horseracing), Kenneth San Andres (motocross) and Malvinne Ann Alcala (badminton) are the other major awardees.
They will join Co-Athletes of the Year Nonito Donaire Jr. and Dennis Orcollo, and the 36 gold-medal winners in the 26th Southeast Asian Games, who will receive special citations.
