The Blue Eagles reached the finals following a 77-62 rout of University of San Agustin, while West Negros advances with a 66-55 victory over St. Francis of Assissi in the semifinals played at the Capiz Gym inside the Villareal Stadium, now the biggest sports complex in Western Visayas.
The Mustang will try to regain the title they won in 2005, while the Blue Eagles hope to improve on their fourth-place finish last year in the games supported by Sandugo Sandals and Gatorade and the local governments of Capiz and Roxas City.
In women’s basketball, heavily favored defending champions Adamson University shoots for its fifth games crown when it clashes with College of St. Benilde in the finals. UP-Diliman finished third after St. Louis University defaulted its match to catch their ship ride on Friday morning.
Far Eastern University, the 2010 University Athletic Association of the Philippines champion, edged University of Santo Tomas, 2-1, in women’s football, while De La Salle University takes on University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos for the men’s football crown. De La Salle blanked University of St. La Salle, 3-0, in the semifinals while UNO-R beat UP-Diliman, 2-1.
It will be an all-UAAP finale in men’s volleyball with defending champion FEU battling UST. In women’s play, Adamson University faces USLS for the crown. FEU swept USLS in the men’s semifinals, 25-20, 25-18, 25-18, while UST was stretched to five sets by National University before prevailing, 26-24, 25-19, 17-25 , 20-25, 15- 8.
USLS took four sets to eliminate Central Philippines University, 25-14, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19, while Adamson brushed aside UP-Diliman in straight sets, 25-13, 25-15, 25-10.
University of the East dominated badminton at the expense of USLS, while National University took its first title in the games, the men’s lawn tennis, at the expense of De La Salle. The Lady Archers, however, retained the women’s tiara by beating UST in the finals.
