A Japanese expert has encouraged Filipino makers of furniture, jewelry and gift items to establish partners and distributors in Japan and take advantage of the rising demand driven by the reconstruction and recovery from the twin disasters that hit the country in March.
Akira Kono, Reed Exhibitions Asia-Pacific general manager, said opportunities abound for Filipino exporters in the Japanese market due to these reasons:
· The Japanese, at this time, do not want to go out of their country, so their savings are being spent for products for their daily use;
· The Japanese have put more importance to human relations after the tsunami, which is why they are giving more gifts to their loved ones; and
· The Japanese in the disaster areas are on their way to recovery and are spending for reconstruction.
“Consumption is growing particularly in the damaged areas. They received certain amount from the government so they have the capacity to spend,” Kono told the BusinessMirror.
To take advantage of this, Kono said Filipino exporters should participate in the numerous trade fairs and expos like the Giftex Tokyo 2012 where they would find reliable partners, distributors, importers and retailers in Japan.
Also, Kono said Filipino manufacturers could take OEM (original equipment manufacturer) orders from retailers and manufacturers in Japan through the Giftex 2012.
He said 2,000 exhibitors from 25 countries and 80,000 trade buyers are expected to attend the Giftex Tokyo.
