Maricris Fernandez-GENTZ injured her toes and dropped the first set, 3-6, then failed to endure the pain, forcing her to retire and yield the match to seventh seed Han Sung Hee of Korea in the $10,000 Holcim/International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women’s Circuit Week I at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center on Thursday.

THE Alaska Aces are taking too many long breaks in between games but so far coach Tim Cone isn’t complaining.

The Aces resume their campaign on Friday night after a seven-day break that touched off their 87-73 victory over Burger King on Friday last week.

TALK ’N TEXT came out aggressive in the third to make up for a sloppy second quarter to beat the Coca-Cola Tigers, 103-94, on Wednesday night in the 2009-10 KFC-Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

Mac Cardona, who ranks second among the league’s scoring leaders with a 19-point- per-game average, poured 23 points in the second half and finished with 35 on 12-of-18 shooting, while Jimmy Alapag (21 points, three assists) provided the leadership the team sorely lacked in the second quarter as the Tropang Texters bounced back from a frustrating loss to Purefoods on Sunday and improved to a 3-2 (win-loss) record.
