SAMSUNG Philippines aspires to be No. 1 this year as it introduced last week newer models for its Samsung Galaxy product line aimed at strengthening the phone brand’s hold of the Philippine mobile market.
“Our goal is to be No. 1. We hope we can do that. We are a strong number two now,” said Samsung mobile phones head and director Glenn Glinoga.
The market is currently dominated by Nokia.
Last week, Samsung announced two new additions to its Galaxy Tab series, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9.
“The Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 are remarkable examples of Samsung’s constant innovation and dedication to designing premium tablets that fit the unique needs of consumers around the world,” Glinoga said.
In December, Samsung launched the 7-inch Galaxy Tab powered by Android 2.2 Froyo.
Samsung also launched a new smartphone called the Samsung Galaxy S2.
Glinoga said the company’s smartphone market grew 40 percent in terms of value and 60 percent in terms of volume.
“We already have a significant market share in terms of tablet and smartphone sales. Now that we no longer have restrictions in supply, we are confident to strengthen our market share and to also grow the market for tablets,” he said.
