BAGUIO CITY—The sudden drop in temperature in this mountain resort city over the past few days has built enthusiasm and sales to local businesses.

The pleasant and chilly weather being enjoyed by residents, tourists and the local businesses is expected to last for a month due to the northeast monsoon from China and the cold front, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-asa).

The lowest temperature in the city so far this year was last Saturday with 10.4 degrees Celsius. The average temperature in the city ranges 15 degrees to 26 degrees Celsius.

As the cold temperature continuous to drop, sales of several cold-weather products have been on the rise. Some of the popular items during this cold weather are water heaters, blankets, gloves, bonnets, jackets, coffee, among others.

Zenaida Diator, a small-scale business woman, said her business is reaping the benefits of the cold weather. She is selling blankets, gloves, scarves, mufflers and knitted wears at the hangar market. She said that profit has gone up 75 percent since the cold snap arrived.

“A spell of cold weather has helped boost demand for our products. The cold weather is good for our business,” Diator said, adding that there is an increase in demand from Baguio residents and tourists alike.
