CLARK FREEPORT—Japanese investors will be asked to fund the “Clark Star” envisioned by the Clark Development Corp. (CDC) President and CEO Felipe Antonio Remollo to make this free port the premiere sports training center and tourism hub in North Luzon.

In an interview last week, Remollo said they will present to President Aquino the plan of the Clark Star Center (the Clark Sports Training Amusement and Recreation Center) before his scheduled state visit Sept. 26 in Japan.

Remollo said Mr. Aquino is expected to present to Japanese businessmen the Clark Star to be established in a 200-hectare area at the northeastern portion of the free port.

He said he had already met with traders in his visit to Yokohama and Tokyo in Japan early September and they expressed interest in investing at the Clark Star.

The Clark Star will have various facilities for water sports such as wakeboarding, jetlev, rowing, water skiing, parasailing, kayaking, dragon boating and jetskiing. It will be built near the Sacobia River for the water sports, he said.

It will also have world-class facilities for basketball, baseball, swimming, tennis and soccer.

Remollo said that dormitories for athletes, sports academy and training ground will be provided as the CDC wants the Clark Star to be training center of national athletes.

He said he had presented to the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) his plan and its president, Jose Cojuangco Jr., “liked it very much.”

Remollo said hotels, villas, condominiums and a commercial area will also rise at the Clark Star to attract tourists to stay in between and after competitions. The residential and commercial area will be completed by a nature and theme park.

In the plan, the CDC wants to create a monorail link system allowing people to travel around the center.

Remollo has pushed sports tourism activities since he assumed his post last June.
