2 Mindanao governors doubt capability, purpose of MILF

TWO governors in Mindanao have expressed reservations on the capability and purpose of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in leading a Bangsamoro substate, whose creation it has proposed to the government in the ongoing peace negotiations.

The doubts were aired by Tawi-Tawi Gov. Sadikul Sahali and Sulu Gov. Abdusakur Tan, as negotiators from the MILF and the government met for the second- straight day on Tuesday in Malaysia in an effort to strike a peace deal.

Military opposes release of top communist leader

THE military on Tuesday expressed opposition to the reported negotiations being conducted by some allies of the Malacañang for the release of a top leader of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) who is now detained.

The Armed Forces spokesman, Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr., said “yes” when asked if the military will insist on the continued detention of Alan Jazmines, 65, who is held at the National Police’s Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Ormoc planters resolve to end child labor in sugar industry

ORMOC CITY—Sugar planters in this part of the country have expressed their commitment to end child labor in their industry as contained in a resolution passed by members of Ormoc-Kananga Mill District Development Council Foundation Inc. (MDDCFI).

The resolution resolved to provide assistance in the implementation of Republic Act 9231, or the anti-child labor law. MDDCFI is a grassroots level organization in Ormoc and neighboring Kananga town that was created in response to Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) Administrative Order 3-91.
