THINK of it as a classic given a Gossip Girl spin. Long associated with the neat, crisp and classic fashion of Ivy League schools, the Preppie Look has been an expression of chic in and out of campus since the 1960s and ’70s.

While the buttoned-down Oxford shirts, the argyle sweaters, the chinos and boat shoes will always be part of prepdom, as Lisa Birnbach called it in the Official Preppy Handbook, the look since has evolved with a more urban edge in the new century.
