THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Thursday said the private sector has remained steadfast in job generation amid lingering financial crisis and devastating typhoons that hit the country last month.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the private sector have been able to reach out to the people by means of job opportunities and placements.

A labor department report said contractors and subcontractors in the private sector provided jobs to some 37,934 individuals, or a 117-percent jump, in September this year, compared to the previous months’ figure of 17,431.

Director Maria Criselda R. Sy of the Dole’s Bureau of Labor and Employment (BLE) said in August 2011, the department’s public service employment office (PESO) had placed some 108,614, and in September, another 73,403 job applicants, including fresh college and training center graduates, and other job seekers, in all types of jobs.

Sy said that in August this year, contractors and subcontractors complemented the government’s employment generation by helping some 22,795 individuals land jobs.

The BLE chief said that PESOs along  with private recruitment and placement agencies (PRPAs) contractors and subcontractors, placed a combined 112,919 applicants in all types of jobs in September 2011.
