FOREIGN direct investments (FDI), the kind that stays for the long haul and generates jobs for Filipinos, grew a little over 30 percent in the first eight months to $1.3 billion.

Most of these originated from the United States, Japan, Hong Kong and the Netherlands, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said on Thursday.

POWER developer Conal Holdings Corp. (CHC) said on Thursday it is looking at putting up two power plants that would source energy from river systems in Mindanao.

In a statement, Joseph Nocos, CHC vice president for business development, said his company is looking at developing a three-tier 17-megawatt (MW) minihydro power plant along the Siguel River and a hydroelectric power facility in the Kalaong River in Maitum, Sarangani.
