THE Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star Modern Ox is a perfect example of my ideal shoe with a modern twist. Out of the box, the colors were the first thing I noticed. The combination of the bright Victoria blue with the standard black and white was a nice simple mix that fits well together. With almost 65 percemt of the shoe taken over by the blue leaving the upper and lower sole and laces as contrast point, the shoes become an instant standout. The only negative is the challenge of finding clothes that pair well with the color and the fear of coloring white socks if the textile gets wet.

In terms of design and style, the Modern Ox holds true to the standard Chuck Taylor All-Star style giving off that classic laid-back look that we all know and love about Converse shoes. The low-cut design works well with both pants and shorts, allowing you to cover up or dress loose with the ever-changing weather in the country. It uses a breathable textile mesh that allows the shoes to be significantly lighter than the standard fabric or leather fitted Chucks. It also provides flexibility, leaving your feet unhindered and free to move naturally.

The shoes fit snuggly from heel to toes providing wonderful support and comfort. I find breaking in new shoes—even normal Chuck Taylors—to be a slightly uncomfortable experience in the beginning, especially because of the narrow design. But these fit perfectly, leaving my feet pain free. The cushioning adapted well to my feet and the sides, though narrow in design, didn’t scrap or blister my toes.

In the end though, the Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star Modern Ox are a wonderful pair of shoes that provided a modern twist to a traditional style.
