SPi Global, PLDT’s business process outsourcing (BPO) unit, is targeting to a 14-percent hike in revenues this year from only 3 percent in 2010 as it expands operations both here and abroad.

Maulik Parekh, president and chief executive officer of SPi Global, said part of its preparations to adjust to the emerging BPO trend is the opening of a new site in Latin America which will address the requirements of clients in the US that are demanding near-shore outsourcing operations and bilingual support for the Hispanic population.

He did not disclose the actual location yet but he said the Latin American site will open in three to six months with about 200 people providing voice and non-voice support services.

SPi, the largest Filipino-owned BPO company today, is also considering other locations outside the Philippines, including China.

“While China is not yet comparable to the Philippines in terms of the English-speaking talent, it has over 2 million college graduates annually so they can be tapped in other non-voice services. So we are actively looking at China,” Parekh said.

SPi currently has about 15,000 employees in voice and non-voice facilities spread in 24 facilities in the US, Europe, the Philippines, India and Vietnam.

Parekh said the company only grew 3 percent last year since its mother unit was still consolidating the BPO operations under SPi.

This year, with the expansion in happening in existing sites, Parekh said the company is poised to grow by 14 percent with the non-voice aspect of the business growing 16 percent to 17 percent, and voice segment a little less than 14 percent.

He said the Philippines, which currently hosts about 11,000 of SPi’s employees, will continue to deliver a large majority of the company’s growth even if it seeks more expansion opportunities elsewhere to adjust to the growing BPO trends.

In terms of employment, Parekh said SPi is likely to grow by 10 percent to 15 percent this year.
