MANILA Water Co. (MWC) recently opened a new laboratory that has the capacity to analyze water samples from as many as 865 points in its east zone concession area.
In a statement, MWC said will help ensure its customers are supplied with clean and potable water. “The construction of the new laboratory is a significant initiative of Manila Water in strengthening its status as world-class water and wastewater service provider. With this new facility coupled with the company’s excellent technical personnel, its customers will truly reap greater benefit,” MWC Chairman Fernando Zobel de Ayala said.
The laboratory boasts of modern equipment at par with established laboratories in the world that analyzes water and wastewater samples. These samples will be tested for microbiological, physical and chemical properties.
The new lab will be housed in two floors, with separate rooms for the analyses of water and wastewater samples. Part of the upgrade includes widening the separate isolation rooms for testing and analyzing water and wastewater samples, respectively and separate storage of chemicals and supplies.
The company has also acquired six refrigerated vans that gather samples from as far as Rodriguez in the north and Jala-Jala in the southern Luzon. These mobile refrigerators will guarantee the integrity of the collected samples.
MWC became the private concessionaire of the state-owned Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System in 1997 and provides water and wastewater services to more than 6.1 million people in the eastern side of Metro Manila as well as several towns in Rizal province.
