THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Wednesday denied news circulating on the internet about the circulation of P150 paper bill.

“The BSP has never issued nor is planning to issue such type of banknote. Therefore, any 150-piso commemorative note or similar banknote is fictitious,” the Central Bank said.

BSP also advised the public to report to the police persons passing the P150 notes as legal tender.

The public can also report people passing the said notes as legal tender to the Investigation Division of the BSP’s Cash Department at its Security Plant Complex along East Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City by calling telephone number 926-5092 and 929-7071 local 618 or through This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Several blogs came out with the alleged design of the P150 bill, which supposedly would be issued in line with the 150th birth anniversary of national hero Jose Rizal.

BSP released last December some 10 million pieces of legal tender P1 coins in line with the celebration of Rizal’s 150th birth anniversary on June 19, 2011.

The round, grayish, nickel-plated steel commemorative coin has the same size and weight as the regular P1 coin now in circulation.

The P1 coins that are now in circulation has a 24-millimeter diameter and weighs 5.35 grams.
