GOVERNMENT-sequestered United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) said on Wednesday its robust earnings in the third quarter pushed its consolidated net income in the first nine months to P1.1 billion, reversing a year-earlier net loss of P1.4 billion. The midsized bank sustained its recovery with a “strong” revenue growth after the completion of a P30-billion capital infusion by the government early this year. |

LEGISLATORS raised their objection over a Swiss-proposed tax- stamp technology for excisable products on the ground that it masks a revenue-generating capability that only Congress may exercise. The objections came in the wake of a Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) statement saying it was now negotiating with Swiss-based Sicpa Products SA to reduce the cost of applying proprietary technology for purposes of taxing cigarette and alcohol products. |
