Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (Hari), the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines, on Thursday said it sold 1,982 units in October, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 18 percent.
Year-to-date sales are at 19,675 units, or a 10-percent improvement over the same period in 2013, credited mainly to the performance of the passenger-car (PC) segment.
The PC category posted a 33-percent gain in sales to 1,476 units in October, driven by its popular models EON, i10 and Accent. The Accent registered the highest sales in the category with a total of 667 units sold in October.
From January to October, the PC category had a 25-percent increase in sales to 13,799 units versus the 11,002 units sold during the same period last year.
The light-commercial vehicles (LCV) segment, however, continued to decline, registering a 12-percent dip from the year-ago level. The LCV category sold 506 units in October compared to the 576 units sold in October 2013.
But sales for the Tucson was an exemption in the LCV category as the model managed to grow by 29 percent year-on-year.
“As we close out 2014, automotive players continue to be bullish towards the Holiday season with companies offering various promos to hype sales further. With the industry surpassing 2013 full-year sales last month, it is projected to hit another record-breaking growth by year-end,” Hari President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo said in a statement.
