SINGAPORE—The Philippines got another shot at a wakeboarding medal after Mark Howard Griffith and Maiguel Jawn Selga qualilfied for the combined team event in the 28th Singapore Southeast Asian Games at the Bedok Reservoir on Saturday.
Griffith, who clinched a bronze medal in the men’s individual wakeboard on Friday, was third overall in the semifinals with 65.11 points behind Thais Tatsanai Kuakoonrat and Padwat Jaemjan, who finished 1-2 with scores of 79.98 and 71.89 points, respectively.
Also a bronze medalist in the women’s individual contest, Selga scored 27.56 points to join Griffith in Sunday’s finals.
The other Filipino entry, Angelou Linao, did not qualify after scoring 54.22 points.
Wakeboard head JV Borromeo explained that combined scores of the men’s and women’s competitors will decide the winner of the team event.
“So we are at a disadvantage since other countries have as many as three qualifiers in the finals.
“Still, we will do our best and try to bring another medal to our country,” Borromeo said.
