CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga—Gov. Lilia G. Pineda wants an immediate review of the cases of inmates at the Pampanga Provincial Jail as one measure to address congestion problem.
Provincial Administrator Andres Pangilinan Jr. said it is the governor’s instructions to ask the Lawyers’ Group of Pampanga to review pending cases of the more than 1,900 inmates, especially the senior citizens and those with weak cases.
“This can alleviate the overcrowding of the jail. We must maximize all available resources just to give them a much decent and humane treatment,” he said.
Pangilinan and personnel of the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) on Wednesday inspected the Pampanga Provincial Jail as part of the regular inspection of the facility.
They also inspected the drainage system of the jail to find a solution to Pampanga Philippine National Police Compound residents’ complaint of foul odor coming from the creek near the provincial jail.
“We checked the creek and found out it is not as bad as how the residents describe it. But nonetheless, we will still do some improvement with it. We might do a box culvert to minimize the foul odor coming from the creek,” he said. PNA
