CHRIS HOFFMAN and Arvin Chan take on each other in the main event, but the spotlight is expected to be focused on actors Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos, who would be settling a grudge inside the cage of the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC).
Geisler and Mato square off in the URCC: Fight Night on Saturday at the Valkryie Club in Taguig City, giving them the opportunity to settle once and for all a feud that started in bar-brawl and was a hot item in social media.
“Many are asking why we are setting up the cage for these two men…all we want is a resolution to their conflict. Instead of doing it in a bar, they can show people that MMA [mixed martial arts] is one way of handling a conflict like a real man,” URCC Founder and President Alvin told a jam-packed Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at Shakey’s Malate on Tuesday.
The feud started at the Tomato Kick Bar in Quezon City in May, with Matos throwing loads of punches to an unassuming Geisler.
Geisler, whose brother Donald is a taekwondo blackbelt and a veteran of the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympics, then challenged Matos to face him inside the cage.
Geisler, 34, and Matos, 27, are neither martial arts practitioner, but the temperamental actor claimed he got into taekwondo when he was much younger.
“I would like to thank Alvin for giving us a chance to fight,” Geisler said. “I’m ready to make him [Matos] bleed.”
Matos admitted MMA is new to him and that Geisler is a strong opponent.
“I want to be in top shape and in my strongest element at fight night,” he said.
This marks the first time in recent memory that celebrities are settling a score in a legitimate fight venue.
And while Geisler and Matos are preparing for a fight that could be a sore for the eyes of an MMA fanatic, Hofmann would be defending his reputation against Chan in the main event of the eight-fight fight card.
Hofmann, who won the light heavyweight belt against Caloy Baduria in their exciting match in April, will be up against Chan in a nontitle bout.
