OUR Lady of Lourdes Hospital (OLLH) hosted the 2014 AEG (Asian Endoscopic Ultrasound Group) workshop, entitled “Bridging EUS into Clinical Practice.” Held on September 13 at the Center for Advanced and Therapeutic Endoscopy, the said workshop was graced by local and international faculties.
The AEG, a common interest group composed of leading EUS experts in Asia, regularly holds highly specialized, focused and pocket workshops, seminars and symposiums intended for both practicing and aspiring gastroenterologists /endoscopists. The mission of the group is to spread the discipline of Endoscopic Ultrasonography— the combination of endoscopy and ultrasound in a single instrument in order to obtain high-resolution images and information concerning the digestive tract, the surrounding tissues and organs; visualization of tumors and its staging; evaluating the pancreas, bile ducts and submucosal lesions.
Moreover, the group endeavors to promote professional development of practicing endosonographers in the Asian region.
For this year, the basic hands-on course at OLLH was attended by a small group of invited young gastroenterologists. This one-day course started with a brief introduction to EUS, followed by a series of lectures on fundamentals of EUS, as well as tips and tricks. The participants had a taste of the actual EUS procedures under direct guidance of the experts. Aside from enjoying the learning process, the participants completed a pre and post test satisfactorily.
