Radio Veritas, the leading faith-based AM station, is once again participating in this year’s Earth Hour movement on Saturday, March 25, through a special program, “Ang Banal na Oras para sa Kalikasan”, to air from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Everyone is invited to take part in the ecological rosary that will be prayed during the special program. It will be moderated by Lou Arsenio, coordinator of Archdiocese of Manila Ecology Ministry, and Rodne Galicha, country manager of Climate Reality Project Philippines, together with the Eco-Prayer Warriors of the Archdiocese of Manila.
With the theme “Mercy to Earth in Year of the Parish”, Earth Hour 2017 aims to bring together millions of individuals to shine a light on climate action, such as the transition to renewables, promoting sustainable food and agriculture, adopting climate-friendly legislation and business practices, supporting conservation projects and raising awareness on climate issues in schools and among the public.
His Eminence Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle expressed his support to Earth Hour and urged the faithful to take part in the movement.
Started from a symbolic switch-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007, the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) Earth Hour has become the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, mobilizing hundreds of millions of people in over 7,000 cities and 172 countries.
Since then, WWF and Earth Hour teams worldwide are using the movement to raise support and funds for access to renewable energy, protection of wildlife and their habitats, building sustainable livelihoods and driving climate-friendly legislation and policy.
The Philippines was the first country in Asia to join the movement in 2008. Now, the Philippines has been heralded as the “Earth Hour Hero Country” for topping Earth Hour participation levels from 2009 to 2013, contributing over 1,600 of the world’s 7,000 Earth Hour hubs last year.
Radio Veritas first took part in the Earth Hour movement in 2009. The station is also continuously supporting the programs of the Ecology Ministry of the Archdiocese of Manila through its environmental advocacies.
Earth Hour 2017 is a partnership of Radio Veritas with the Archdiocese of Manila Ministry on Ecology and WWF Philippines.
Radio Veritas 846 is owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Manila. Established in 1969, the Ramon Magsaysay recipient Catholic radio station continues to be the leading social communications ministry for truth and evangelization in the country today.
