NO amount of “Uy, tumataba ka” comments from elder relatives will get one to lift a finger about his fitness and/or weight issues. At the end of the day, one’s desire to be healthier and fit is a conscious effort; it’s a personal choice.
But when, for whatever reason, one finally decides to channel his inner Rocky and climb the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art to the tune of that inspiring Bill Conti theme from the movie, it’s important to note that a healthier heart or six-pack abs can’t be achieved on will or dive alone.
There’s the issue about an appropriate and personalized nutrition program, proper exercise techniques and fighting fluctuating interest in achieving the goal. Google, however helpful it may be, can’t address such issues.
That is why it’s important to have a professional personal trainer. Never mind the fear of having someone in your ear all the time, because it’s just a small price to pay for a huge reward.
Just ask Hercules of Philoctetes on his path to heroism, or Manny Pacquiao of Freddie Roach in his quest to becoming an eight-time world champion. Not that you’re aspiring to be a mythical legend or a global sports icon or anything of the sort, but you get the point.
A few columns back, discussed the qualities to look for in a personal trainer (i.e., properly educated, approachable, etc.) but now, let me show you the ways why it pays to have a guiding and knowledgeable hand:
• A personal trainer plans a program for you that will effectively help you get the scheme of things if it’s your first time in the fitness world; and efficiently get you back into the swing of things and start reshaping and toning your body if you’re coming from a layoff. Sometimes, when you do it on your own, a lack of knowledge may cost you correct body mechanics and posture, among other important things. It’s cheaper to hire a personal trainer than seeking medical care after a serious injury.
• A personal trainer knows which exercises and nutrition plans are effective for you. This will keep you from taking on exercises that are not only time-consuming but useless and ineffective as well. A personal trainer can help you focus on the goals that you have made, make plans for your activities, and ensure that you get the optimum results in less time as much as possible.
• A personal trainer’s program is individualized to suit the person under training. He can make plans for your activities depending on your age, weight, physical form, medical condition and your availability. Activities which are effective for others may not be all that effective for you.
• A personal trainer helps in keeping you safe during exercises. Most exercises are not effective since they are not done well without professional help, and they may even lead to injuries and discomfort.
You have personally decided to take the path toward fitness and it’s our duty as a personal trainer to keep you on it. You might have heard it before but we do push you an extra mile or two, perhaps even more.
Anyone can get fit by himself but without the proper knowledge and supervision of how to get by things, you may get stuck at a slower pace without you knowing it, and—worse—you open yourself up to injuries. We personal trainers not only ensure a safe and effective program but also provide motivation and support geared toward positive lifestyle changes in an engaging and progressive pacing.
