MARICEL SORIANO and Dingdong Dantes won the awards for Outstanding Performance by an Actress and Actor, respectively, at the Sixth Golden Screen TV Awards by Entertainment Press Society, which was held on Sunday night at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City. They won for Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real, where they played a couple undone by infidelity.
The popular GMA prime-time drama also won the awards for Outstanding Original Drama Program and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama for Alessandra de Rossi as Maricel’s best friend.
The phenomenal love team of superstar Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III were named the winners of Outstanding Performance by an Actress and Actor in an Single Drama or Telemovie, respectively, for TV 5’s Studio 5 Original Presents: When I Fall in Love.
GMA won the plum for Outstanding Television Network for the second straight year since the category was included in 2012, when the Entertainment Press Society decided to revive the Golden Screen TV Awards. The award goes to the station that wins the most number of awards for that particular year.
Sharon Cuneta led the list of special awardees, winning the Dolphy Lifetime Achievement Award: Ulirang Alagad ng Sining, in recognition of her stellar career as a singer, actress, TV host and movie star.
Roderick Paulate won the Helen Vela Lifetime Achievement Award for Comedy, Cheche Lazaro was honored with the Helen Vela Lifetime Achievement Award for News Broadcast, and Ronaldo Valdez was named the Helen Vela Lifetime Achievement Awardee for Drama.
GMA won a total of 24 awards, while ABS-CBN took home 16 plums, GMA News TV won five, while TV5 was awarded with four.
Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real nearly made a clean sweep of all acting awards in the drama category. Maricel failed to attend the awards night due to a sickness, and it was the soap’s director Andoy Ranay who accepted the award for her. According to Andoy, when he told Maricel of her nomination, she said that it would be unlikely for her to win as the jurors might be inclined to give the award to someone younger.
Dingdong was supposed to leave after presenting an award since he needed to catch a flight to Malaysia to attend the Asean Summit. Luckily, he was able to stay a few more minutes to receive his Outstanding Actor prize, his first from Golden Screen TV Awards. It was his first acting award for a TV drama.
Aside from his co-nominees and his co-stars, Dingdong also dedicated his win to wife Marian and to the baby they’re expecting. He said that Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real was memorable for him as it taught him a lot of lessons as an actor—adding that he will never forget the 20 slaps he took from Maricel in one of the most talked-about scenes of the soap.
Tirso Cruz III was pleasantly surprised by winning not one but two plums at the awards ceremonies—Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor (Drama) for ABS-CBN’s Ikaw Lamang and Outstanding Single Performance by an Actor in a Single Drama/Telemovie.
Kris Aquino was unable to receive the plums for Outstanding Lifestyle Program Host for Kris TV and Outstanding Female Showbiz Talk Program Host for The Buzz. Vice Ganda was named Outstanding Celebrity Talk Program Host for Gandang Gabi Vice and Outstanding Male Host in a Musical or Variety Program for It’s Showtime. Michael V. and Angelica Panganiban were named winners for Outstanding Performance by an Actor and Actress in a Gag or Comedy Program for Pepito Manaloto and Banana Nite Extra Scoop, respectively.
The programs reviewed by the Golden Screen Awards jurors were shown from July 1, 2013 to December 2014. Serving as hosts of the awards ceremonies were John Sweet Lapus, Iza Calzado, Janno Gibbs and Ogie Alcasid.
The awards night was produced by Pink Productions and directed by Louie Ignacio.
