MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur—In efforts to make this municipality the organic capital of the country, Mayor Arthur Davin told his constituents to go organic in their farming practice.
Davin said the bottom line of this cause is to promote healthy living and lifestyle among his people.
“This is very basic. Having a healthy body means having a long life,” he said.
The town is already known for MagRice, short for Magsaysay Rice, an organically grown variety of rice, which is sold to supermarkets in Davao City and other malls in the Davao region.
The newly established organic trading post is also selling not only MagRice, but also organic products like fruit jams, coffee, tea and candies.
The local government is also introducing organic native chicken production in three select barangays as pilot areas.
Davin said he is happy over the response of the people in adopting organic-farming practices in
their areas.
“The response is very positive. We would continue our advocacy in telling them to go organic,” he said.
For its part, the Sangguniang Bayan also passed and approved an ordinance instituting organic agriculture as the way of farming in the municipality.
