THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has put on hold the scheduled reopening of the voter registration for the 2017 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
The reopening of the registration, which is scheduled on October 3, will have to wait until the law postponing the October 31 barangay and youth polls is signed by President Duterte.
“We can only resume registration after the law postponing the barangay and SK elections has been passed,” Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said.
Earlier, the Comelec said it is looking to resume voter registration after Congress agreed to pass a law postponing the barangay and SK polls.
The voter registration was supposed to last for six months, or until April 29, 2017.
Instead, Jimenez said they will just reschedule the resumption of voter registration once the law has been passed.
