BAGUIO CITY—Nars Padilla of the Baguio Elderly Assembly on Wednesday said the observation of the “Elderly Filipino” will start on October 3 with the annual Senior Citizen Officials For A Day (SCOFAD).
Senior citizens will assume 57 positions for a day and will receive an honorarium equivalent to a day’s salary of the respective official, whose office they will assume.
It will be another monthlong celebration for senior citizens in Baguio this 2016, climaxing on the best of the best—the Gintong Tala Awards, Padilla said.
“Twelve senior citizens will be recognized for their leadership in their respective professions and for their exemplary participation in community development efforts and will be awarded the prestigious Gintong Tala Awards,” Padilla added.
The awardees will come from the religious and special-services sector, government service, medical service, education, tourism, military, business and trade, social services, journalism, and sports, Padilla said.
Other highlights during the observation include the Parade of Senior Citizens, the Awarding of the Outstanding Senior Citizen Achievers and Recognition of the Baguio Centenarians on October 4, Senior Citizens Palaro on October 8, Medical and Dental Mission for Senior Citizens on October 18 and Cultural Presentation on October 26.
City Social Welfare and Development Officer Betty Fangasan said more than 36,000 Senior Citizen IDs had already been issued by the office.
Fangasan added that there are 898 Social Pensioners receiving P500 a month from Department of Social Welfare and Development, 537 on waiting list and 119 organized senior citizens applications in all barangays in Baguio City.
“This is how active our senior citizens are and with their associations, they are not only active but strong in terms of sharing good ideas,” Fangasan added.
