THE Cebu City government, led by Mayor Tomas Osmeña, is set to celebrate the city’s 80th Charter Day on February 24, with the theme “Tomorrow Must Be Better Than Today”.
The weeklong activities began on February 13, and are being spearheaded by different agencies and departments.
The Arts Week, spearheaded by the Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Office, kicked off the celebration at Plaza Independencia. It will last till February 17.
On Valentine’s Day, February 14, a traditional sending and posting of “Love Notes”, led by the City Treasurer’s Office, took place at the lobby of Cebu City Hall.
The Department of Social Welfare and Services handles the Cebu City Government Employee’s Family Day on February 18 at the Sugbo Building Grounds of South Road Properties.
The “Serbisyong Sugbuanon” which will bring the services of the Cebu City government closer to the people, will be launched on February 20 at the Plaza Sugbo. The program will be brought to the different barangays.
On the big day, February 24, there will be a Thanksgiving Mass, a flag-raising ceremony and ceremonial activities set at the Plaza Sugbo fronting Cebu City Hall.
The Awarding of Outstanding Individuals and Institutions with a testimonial dinner will be conducted on the same day. It will be held in the Cebu City Grand Convention Center.
The activities for the big day will be spearheaded by the Office of the Mayor, Department of Manpower Development and Placement, and the Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Office.
The celebration will be wrapped up with the recognition of Young Sugbuanon Exemplary and Action-Driven Leaders Awardees 2017 on February 25. It will be facilitated by the Cebu City Youth Affairs Office.
The city of Cebu was born by virtue of Commonwealth Act 58. The then-municipality of Cebu, under the Cebu Provincial Government became an independent charteredcity known as Cebu City.
The celebration will be observed as a holiday in the entire city.
