Seaoil leads oil-price hike
Local pump prices are on the rise this week. Seaoil Philippines said late Monday afternoon that it will increase gasoline prices by P0.90 per liter, diesel by P0.65 per liter and kerosene by P0.80 per liter. The price adjustment will take effect on 6 a.m. on Tuesday. “This is to reflect movements in the international petroleum market,” it said. As of news time, only Seaoil has made public its price adjustment. Other oil firms are expected to follow suit. Last week oil firms reduced gasoline prices by P0.20 per liter, diesel by P0.60 per liter and kerosene by P0.50 per liter. Lenie Lectura
Consumer advocates probe air bag recall
SYDNEY—Australia’s consumer watchdog said on Monday it was urgently seeking information from the government regulator and car manufacturers after a magazine reported that recalled Takata air bags were being replaced by faulty air bags. Australian consumer magazine Choice discovered car makers were refitting faulty Takata air bags in recalled vehicles as a temporary solution, after questioning 14 car manufacturers in Australia. Many confirmed that a percentage of the vehicles were refitted with like-for-like replacements and would need to be recalled again, Choice Spokesman Tom Godfrey said. The Japanese-manufactured air bags have been linked to 18 deaths around the world by firing metal shards when deploying, including a man killed this month near Sydney. AP
