BUSINESS incubator and accelerator Brainsparks is moving to encourage technology-based solutions in academe, government and industry, in addressing the country’s development issues.
This was done in a recently held workshop, themed “The Internet of Things for a Changing World” in Batangas.
The “Internet of Things (IoT)” is a technology concept that envisions connectivity embedded in everyday objects.
Some 40 participants gathered to come up with IoT solutions to real development problems, such as urban development and labor productivity.
The participants were from the Department of Science and Technology, the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development, Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Inc., Fastech Synergy Philippines Inc., and local start-ups JumpSparc and Tinkbox, and electronics and robotics club PhilRobotics.
Participants from the three sectors developed prototype tech-based solutions to environmental issues (e.g., water quality monitoring systems, haze/smog sensor networks, or even noise pollution solutions); agriculture (soil quality monitoring, automated irrigation, or affordable hydroponics solutions); or urban development (for example traffic monitoring, automated movement based street lights, or flood flow tracking).
Brainsparks is an innovation and start-up hub established by the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities, run in close partnership with First Asia Venture Capital Inc.
