MERALCO hopes to sustain its good run in the Commissioner’s Cup as it battles GlobalPort in the main game of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Fresh from a semifinal stint in the midseason tournament, the Bolts try to keep their good showing as they seek a win against Batang Pier in their 7 p.m. encounter.
In the opener, Alaska and Blackwater face off at 4:15 p.m. With only eight teams advancing to the quarterfinal stage after a single-round elimination, each game will be important and Meralco Head Coach Norman Black knows the value of each match.
“We just want to get off to a good start this conference,” said Black, whose team will be beefed up by Andre Emmett, who is known for his offensive game, and Iranian guard Benny Koochoie.
“Our import [Emmett] is a good offensive player. Benny just arrived so we are still trying to find the best way to utilize him,” Black added. “Big concerns versus GlobalPort are to find ways to slow down their guards and not allow their big import to dominate.”
Meanwhile, Ginebra and Barako Bull swapped exciting guards as the Kings acquired Sol Mercado from the Energy who, in turn, got the services of Joseph Yeo.
