LOCAL banking giant BDO Unibank Inc. (BDO) reached its 1,000-branch milestone nationwide this month, after the Sy-led bank opened its latest full-service outlet in Davao City.
BDO Senior EVP and Head of Branch Banking Jaime Yu said reaching the milestone affirms their commitment to put up branches in viable areas—both in urban and rural centers—to help reach the still-sizable number of unbanked and underbanked Filipinos.
BDO opened its latest branch in Buhangin, Davao City, on March 20.
“We fully recognize there are still about 70 percent of the population with no bank accounts, or have yet to enter the formal banking sector,” Yu said.
“The continued growth of our branches is our way of creating opportunities for more people to experience the rewards of having a bank that takes care of their financial needs,” he said.
Last year BDO stood with a local branch network of 981, and a branch in Hong Kong. Of this number, 492 branches are in Metro Manila, another 305 in other areas in Luzon, 108 in the Visayas and 76 in Mindanao.
BDO said it is planning to add 60 more branches by the end of this year, to put its network to 1,042 by the end 2017.
