THE highly anticipated exhibition match between actors Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos ended in a unanimous draw before a raucous crowd who witnessed the sold-out Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC): Fight Night late on Saturday at the Valkyrie Club in Taguig City.
The mixed-martial arts bout of the two controversial entertainment personalities, which started after they figured in a brawl in a bar in Quezon City and became a hot topic in social media, got everyone hooked up, resulting to a standing-room-only crowd.
But the result was a disappointing 19-19 draw after two rounds of pounding inside the octagon, with the three judges concluding the match with no contest winner.
Matos, a 27-year-old model and indie actor, had significant hits to Geisler in the first round, dominating every minute with striking combinations in his opponent’s face.
In the second round, Geisler took the top position in the canvas, but exhaustion was visible to his less-powered shots that cause no damage to the on-guarded Matos.
The fans, obviously wanting more action from the two actors, eagerly waited for the decision. But the announcement made everyone disappointed, with neither Geisler nor Matos proclaimed as winner.
The crowd shouted to have one more round to break the tie, but the organizers did not oblige.
Geisler and Matos hugged after the bout and agreed to settle the issue once and for all.
URCC President Alvin Aguilar quickly justified the call of the judges, saying that the “real” purpose of the fight was for the reconciliation of the actors after their altercations last month.
“Para naman ito sa lahat. Look at the end, nagbati sila. They fought like real fighters,” Aguilar noted.
Geisler and Matos looked worn out. They said that the fatigue factor, plus their limited time to train, really put them on the down side. But they guaranteed that all will be well between them from now.
