SOUTH Luzon Thermal Energy Corp. (SLTEC) switched on Friday the first unit of its 2×135 megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Calaca, Batangas.
“SLTEC has achieved commercial operations date for the first unit of its 2x135MW circulating fluidized bed power plant in Calaca, Batangas, on April 24,” Trans-Asia said in a disclosure.
SLTEC is a joint venture of AC Energy Holdings Inc. (AC Energy), the power arm of Ayala Corp., and Trans-Asia Oil and Development Corp.
The second 135-MW unit of the plant is currently under construction and expected to be completed by the end of the year.
AC Energy President Eric Francia earlier said the group is looking at further expanding its 1,000-MW commitment by another 500 MW after 2016.
AC Energy and its partners are pursuing several power projects with a combined capacity of 2,000 MW by 2016.
According to Francia, the company expects power projects to contribute at least 10 percent to its equity earnings by 2020.
Among the power projects that are already online includes the 19-MW expansion of Northwind Power Development Corp. (Northwind) in Bangui, Ilocos Norte.
The expansion has brought total capacity of Northwind’s facility to 52 MW.
AC Energy, through its affiliate North Luzon Renewable Energy Corp. (NLREC), also completed its 81-MW wind farm in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, in November last year.
Combined, Northwind and NLREC put Ayala’s total wind-power capacity at 133 MW.
