AYALA Land subsidiary Makati Development Corporation (MDC), in partnership with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), has graduated over 14,000 skilled workers from its training schools and assessment centers to date—thereby contributing to a more inclusive economic development that reaches out to local communities nationwide.
What began as a partnership with TESDA on its Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) in 2014 has now grown into an enhanced development program, wherein MDC builds its own training schools and assessment centers across the country–all of which are compliant with TESDA’s regulations. MDC is also working with TESDA for the Dual Training System (DTS), a combination of theoretical and practical training to equip trainees with well-coordinated learning experiences.
“The continued growth of Ayala Land has driven us to further our partnership with TESDA, recognizing the increasing demand for skilled workers,” said MDC President Dante M. Abando. “Our enhanced training program likewise allows us to leverage the skills of our manpower, providing them with more opportunities for professional advancement, and with their help, we are able to increase our capacities for sustained development.”
These MDC learning centers offer TESDA courses such as masonry, carpentry, electrical installation and maintenance, shielded metal arc welding, scaffold erection, and heavy equipment operation, among others. These learning centers also have training and instructional materials and equipment that are tailor-fit to the specific needs of the
construction site. Furthermore, these are authorized to conduct theoretical and practical assessments to determine the passers who will be awarded a TESDA-issued national certification.
Much focus in these training sessions is also placed on safety and quality assurance. In addition to the vocational courses and assessments, MDC offers cross-training programs that enable trainees to acquire technical skills and competencies on various construction methodologies.
Aside from providing skilled Filipinos with jobs and professional growth, Ayala Land views MDC’s training programs with TESDA as its way of supporting inclusive economic growth and nation-building. These also provide Filipinos with more job options in the country, with the hope of encouraging them to work and develop their skills here instead of seeking employment abroad.
MDC currently has eight training schools, six of which have assessment centers, located in Makati City, Taguig City, Quezon City, Las Piñas City, Cavite, Iloilo, Cebu, and Davao. The company invests about Php 2 million for each training school.
The MDC-TESDA partnership is an excellent and sustainable platform for job creation not just within Metro Manila but in various communities nationwide. The program is also proof that construction-related vocational courses offer significant opportunities for personal growth and success.
This initiative to build skills in construction work reflects Ayala Land’s commitment to local economic growth and nation-building as a leading developer of sustainable estates. Through MDC, its construction arm with 42 years of experience in the industry and over 400 projects and counting, Ayala Land is able to provide an array of services that offers the best value in engineering, construction, and sustainable design.
