The average farmgate price of palay, or unmilled rice, went up by a minimal 0.79 percent to P18.63 per kilogram for the week ending January 20, according to a report released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Farmgate price inched up on an annual basis, as farmers have not yet harvested their dry-season crop.
On a weekly basis, however, PSA data showed that the average farmgate price of palay declined by
0.66 percent.
While the average farmgate price rose by less than 1 percent for the week ending January 20, PSA data showed that the average retail price of regular milled rice rose by 6.79 percent over last year’s quotation.
On a weekly basis, however, the average retail price of regular milled rice declined by 0.10 percent to P39.01 per kilo.
For well-milled rice, PSA said the average retail price at P42.72 per kilo was higher by 7.57 percent compared to the figure posted in the same period last year.
“The average retail price at P42.72 per kilo inched down by 0.07 percent from last week’s posting,” the report read.
For yellow corn, PSA data showed that farmgate price at P12.18 per kilo was higher by 1.43 percent than last year’s level. On a weekly basis, the figure was lower by 0.69 percent from last week’s report.
“The average price of white corn grain at P12.17 per kilo registered price cuts of 0.84 percent and 17.84 percent from last week’s and last year’s records, respectively,” the report read.
At retail, PSA said the average price of yellow corn was higher by 0.24 percent from last week’s record and by 3.26 percent from last year’s quotation.
For white corn, the average retail price at P19.80 per kilo was 0.80 per lower than last week’s record. On an annual basis, however, the figure is 0.51 percent higher than the P19.70 per kilo posted in the same period last year.
