REIGNING champion Ateneo and De La Salle take on separate foes with strong credentials as the Season 77 women’s volleyball action in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines resume on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Eagles clash with their Final Four stepladder foes last season, the Adamson University Lady Falcons, at 2 p.m., while the Lady Green Spikers take on opening-day losers but title contenders National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs at 4 p.m.
In the men’s action, NU and Ateneo will also shoot for their second straight victories. The back-to-back titlists Bulldogs take on rebuilding former champions Far Eastern University Tamaraws at 8 a.m. followed by the Ateneo-Adamson University duel at 10 a.m.
In their season-opening match on Saturday, Ateneo, behind open hitter and skipper Alyssa Valdez, waylaid NU in straight sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-15. Valdez topped all scorers with 28 points off 20 attacks.
Former “three-peat” champion De La Salle, on the other hand, shook off a jittery start to score a 25-23, 24-26, 25-17, 25-17 win over Adamson University on Sunday. Captain Ara Galang took charge with 27 points on 22 spikes and five blocks in De La Salle’s first UAAP match in the post-Abigail Maraño era.
