ONCE again, the world will witness heads of government gather for the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) assembly on November 18 and 19.
Established in 1989, the Apec holds an annual forum in the Pacific Rim for 21 nations, namely, Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), Thailand, the United States of America and Vietnam. The premier forum aims to facilitate economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as enhance regional economic progress and strengthen the international community.
This year the Philippines will host and preside over the 27th Apec summit—two decades since the country hosted the event for the first time in November 1996 in Subic Bay, Zambales.
Aside from the leaders wearing the host country’s traditional costume, perhaps one of the fascinations of the Apec is its automotive aspect. As an example, the nation will witness the heads of state onboard their exclusive, state-of-the-art, security-reinforced vehicles—particularly the US president’s vehicle known as “The Beast” or “Cadillac One.” There will also be an array of luxury rides for other leaders, senior officials, top businessmen and industry experts from the 21-nation council.
Critical to every Apec congregation is the uninterrupted, comfortable and reliable transport to and from the destinations. For this reason, two German manufacturers well known for their opulence and a Japanese carmaker renowned for its global presence consented to provide their finest creations. Since last year, BMW was entitled as the official premium mobility partner for Apec 2015. Asian Carmakers Corp. (ACC), the official importer and distributor of BMW in the Philippines, pledged to provide over 200 BMW luxury autos for Apec’s use.
“As the preferred premium mobility provider for Apec 2015, we aim to ensure a positive experience among delegates by offering the best models in our portfolio. We have especially commissioned cars that uphold the global BMW standards of safety and performance to support the government’s efforts in driving economic growth in the Philippines and the region,” ACC President Maricar Parco said.
Making up one of the two fleets is BMW’s flagship 7 Series Long Wheelbase sedans, which are some of the most technologically advanced cars in the world and boast of an additional 5.5 inches of rear-seat legroom. Every leader or VIP will be pampered inside the luxurious and expansive cabin. There is also the 5 Series—both in sedan and grand Turismo forms—which are similarly identifiable as part of the executive class. The diesel-powered variant will definitely impress dignitaries and top businessmen as this version will fit them well.
Early this year, Mercedes-Benz was also named as the premium mobility partner for the Apec 2015 summit. Auto Nation Group, official distributor of Mercedes-Benz automobiles in the Philippines, will showcase its leading S-Class that offers a first-rate office and wellness lounge in every seat that will surely indulge every luminary fortunate enough to occupy its cabin. Known also as the Sonderklasse, the Mercedes-Benz S 400 exudes an aura of opulence—perfect for the Apec bigwigs.
“Being a mobility partner of the Apec 2015 CEO Summit is an honor. Through this endeavor, we take part in an effort to contribute to the progress of our country.” Auto Nation Group Inc. President Felix R. Ang said.
Meanwhile, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) entered into an agreement with the government early this year to also serve as a mobility partner of Apec.
“We are thankful that we have been given this opportunity to become a mobility partner of Apec Philippines 2015 by providing 296 Toyota vehicles to be used as transportation for the public and private sectoral meetings, as well as during the summit. But more than just providing means for mobility, Toyota is one with Apec and the Philippine government in realizing this year’s theme ‘Building Inclusive Economies, Building a Better World,” TMP President Michinobu Sugata said.
Displaying comfort, reliability and toughness is a convoy of 70 Camry 2.5G ATs, 50 Altis 1.6V ATs (black), 90 Fortuner G 4X2 diesels (black), 43 Fortuner V 4X2 diesels (black) and 43 Hi-Ace GL Grandia MT (two-toned). Representatives will definitely benefit from the proven performance of this Toyota caravan to ferry them to their respective endpoints.
Another sure thing is that all these BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota automobiles will traverse the installed exclusive lanes on major roads and highways for constant, safe and swift navigation. Moreover, car fanatics will certainly take pleasure in seeing the finest carriers cruising the restricted paths.
