ADVANCED Micro Devices (AMD) Inc. announced on February 2 the launch of its new thermal solutions and desktop processors. In a statement, the company said the thermal solutions are designed for consumer who cares about how their desktop personal computer (PC) runs, sounds, and looks. “AMD now offers new thermal solutions that generate less than one-tenth the noise of their predecessors running at a near-silent 39 decibels, the company said. The new AMD thermal solutions are included with seven AMD processors.”
On the other hand, the company’s new desktop processor is powered by 4 CPU (central processing unit) cores. The processor is the first unlocked desktop A10 processor to feature 65W TDP (Thermal Design Power) and includes a 95W TDP near-silent thermal solution to ensure quiet operation.
The launch comes afer the International Data Corp. (IDC) said last month that personal computer (PC) shipments in Asia-Pacific (including Japan) decreased year-on-year (YoY) by 7.7 percent.
The IDC said total PC shipments hit only 107.6 million units last year. The decline is a steeper contraction from the 5.7 percent YoY drop in 2014. In the fourth quarter of last year, IDC said the market declined by 6.5 percent YoY, reaching 26.9 million units.
