NATIONAL University (NU) goes for a bounce-back victory against Far Eastern University (FEU) today in Season 79 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s volleyball action at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan City.
The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Tamaraws clash at 4 p.m., right after the tussle between University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Adamson University at 2 p.m.
The Tigresses have been struggling to live up to the off-season hype that they could contend for the crown. They are hoping to improve on their 1-3 start against the winless Lady Falcons (0-5), who are trying to adjust to the system of American Coach Airess Padda.
The Lady Bulldogs are hoping to bounce back from a three-set loss to defending champion De La Salle last week that smirched their 3-0 start.
The loss to the Lady Spikers was a bitter pill for NU Head Coach Roger Gorayeb.
“It’s okay to lose games sometimes, because you’ll learn something from it,” Gorayeb said. “But it’s hard to accept it and I don’t understand that we lost not because of La Salle, but to our poor service and reception.
Gorayeb wanted a better performance from Jaja Santiago, Jasmine Nabor, Risa Sato, Aiko Urdas and Jorelle Singh when they face FEU.
Lady Tamaraws Head Coach Shaq de los Santos, meanwhile, has yet to see something special from his team, especially from Bernadeth Pons, Remy Palma, Jerrilli Malabanan and Chin Basas. They are currently sporting a 2-2 win-loss record this season.
“NU has been playing well so far, compared to us,” de los Santos said. “So we have to work harder and double our efforts.”
Adamson University (1-3) and UST (2-2) square off at 8 a.m., while NU and FEU, tied at second place with 3-1 records, take the floor at 10 a.m. in the men’s division.
